The Olympians

Hades
Hades is the Greek god of the Underworld, the place where human souls go after death. Depicted as stern and pitiless, unmoved by prayer nor sacrifice, forbidding and aloof. he was however not evil. Rather, he was lonely and people feared him because of what he commanded. His loneliness would eventually lead him to kidnap Persephone. |

Aphrodite
Aphrodite is the goddess and personification of beauty, love, sex, pleasure, passion and procreation. She is extremely vain, which can be seen in her desire to be named the most beautiful goddess in The Iliad, and can be very jealous and vindictive, and is often described as punishing those who don't recognize her beauty. |
|
Athena
Athena was depicted as a beautiful, yet stern Goddess in Greek mythology. She could be best described as being calculating - weighing up all the options before making a decision. As such, Athena was revered for her wisdom and unmatched intelligence, especially when it came to matters of war or even peace. |

Apollo
One of the most important and complex of the Greek gods, Apollo has been recognized as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. He was the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. He is considered to be the most beautiful god and is represented as the ideal of the kouros. In short, Apollo was energetic, cheerful, wise, honest and kind, but sometimes he could be jealous. |
|
Hermes
The Winged Herald and Messenger of the Greek gods Hermes, known as Mercury to the Romans, was considered the messenger of the Olympic gods and was the son of Zeus and Maia. He famously wore winged sandals so he could fly between the heavens, the Earth and the underworld. In short, Hermes was a trickster, a traveller, a thief, and a troublemaker, and embroiled himself in all sorts of mischief and mystery as his stories unravelled. |

Journey, by Aaron Becker
After numerous requests, I decided to complete Aaron Becker's Journey trilogy by writing the music for both his Journey and Return stories. A lonely girl draws a magic door on her bedroom wall and through it escapes into a world where wonder, adventure, and danger abound. Red marker in hand, she creates a boat, a balloon, and a flying carpet that carry her on a spectacular journey toward an uncertain destiny. When she is captured by a sinister emperor, only an act of tremendous courage and kindness can set her free. Can it also lead her home and to her heart’s desire? |

Quest, by Aaron Becker
Composed in 2021 for World Book Day, this orchestral score tells a musical story to Quest, a hugely popular Aaron Becker picture book from his Journey trilogy of books. A king emerges from a hidden door in a city park startling two children sheltering from the rain. No sooner does he push a map and some strange objects into their hands than he is captured by hostile forces that whisk him back through the enchanted door. Just like that, the children are caught up in a quest to rescue the king and his kingdom from darkness, while illuminating the farthest reaches of their imagination. Coloured markers in hand, they make their own way through the portal, under the sea, through a tropical paradise, over a perilous bridge, and high in the air with the help of a winged friend. Return, by Aaron Becker
Failing to get the attention of her busy father, a lonely girl turns back to a fantastic world for friendship and adventure. It's her third journey into the enticing realm of kings and emperors, castles and canals, exotic creatures and enchanting landscapes. This time, it will take something truly powerful to persuade her to return home, as a gripping backstory is revealed that will hold readers in its thrall. |
